Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of biochemical &
physiological abnormalities associated with the development of
heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. These conditions include
increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat
around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels.
It’s a serious health condition that puts people at higher risk of heart
disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke and diseases related to fatty
buildups in artery walls (atherosclerosis).
Studies show that by 2030 the proportion of total global deaths
due to chronic diseases is expected to increase to 70% and the
global burden of disease to 56%.
